^Admire the sexyness that is Jace as you read my review.
As we've ALL heard, The Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare is brilliant. Now, after hearing the reviews, the ranting from my peers, and the constant scare of seeing a bunch of "runes" drawn all of my friends body, I said "eh, What the Hell, I SHALL READ IT!"
And so I did. Over the course of a year. Yes, from the beginning of one summer to the beginning of the next. It was often boring, but I think the trouble lied in my intense skills of being sidetracted and in procrasination.
Anyways, I gave City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, 3.5/5 stars.
THIS IS NOT BAD!!!! Well, not that bad at least.
The book was exciting, full of tons of action and excitement, full of great characters, funny quotes, and a lot of unraveling. The book could have been CONDENSED.
Unnecessary scenes were added and the excitement...wasn't all that exciting. Because of the constant "Run here. Do this. Smack this. Dangle this. Jump from this. Flamethrow action upon this." I was bored. It was simply running and fightnig, which to many is interesting, but for me, certain authors like Koushun Takami, Dan Brown, Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, etc. are the only ones who can pull it off. Otherwise, it's BORING.
The boringness of the novel, time it took me to read, and somewhat unecessary length made me bump it from 5 to 4. FOUR is good. (Totally just thought of Tobias from Divergent.)
Then...the ending. Alright, I'm going to say this ONCE.
Actually about a million times.
THE STUFF BELOW ARE SPOILERS. SPOILER ALERT. BEEP BEEP. SPOILERS. AS IN, IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT, YOU WILL BE VERY ANNOYED. UNLESS YOU ENJOY SPOILERS. THEN CONTINUE.
Anyways. SPOILERS.
Down there.
Right there.
(I'm writing teeny because I feel it has some effect. This is a spoiler BTW. In case you weren't aware. The ending...it just pissed me off. Honestly, yes I know Clary and Jace will eventually sometime find out they aren't related but it was so irritating. I was left hanging like...that's it? After this huge book...that's it? I was just irritated, they should've ended on a better note and possibly have added the sibling stuff early in the book or later. Anyways...)
That's why it lost .5 stars.
Not a huge deal...but still irritating.
Otherwise, the book was great. Clary is a fierce warrior, quite sassy, and also interesting. Even with her as a main character I'm always flustered when i see her reactions!
Simon, he was annoying as hell at times, but overall he was very sweet and a great friend. Just a very fun character to have along the journey.
Jace is a BADASS. He is hilarious, strong, and like in Vampire Diaries, whenever he's around you know everything will be taken care of. (That was a Stefan reference btw. Though recently it's much more relevant to Damon...SEE WHAT I MEAN BY SIDETRACTED.) That was spelled wrong. Eh, who cares.
So yes, Isabelle was plain old sexy, with her Santana-like attitude. Alec, he was adorable, but rude to Clary. But since he's superior and gay...it's ALRIGHT! Magnus...oh Magnus...please...be mine.
Anyways, i'm drooling now.
This was an excellent read, hopefully you understand why it was bumped down, if not discuss below in the comments.
Thanks for checking out this review and sticking with me as I check out what's Between The Pages.
That sounded extremely cheesy and like Between The Lions.
It was satisfying.
Bye<3
